A plaza lot at closing time, and a shoulder where nothing slows down
Two very different calls come out of this corner of the Island.
The first is the big-box plaza. Around the Bricktown Centre and along Veterans Road West, cars sit for hours while people shop, and the lots are large enough that a dead car at nine in the evening can be surrounded by empty spaces and nobody at all. Every so often one gets left overnight because the owner got a lift home, which turns a flat battery into a next-morning problem.
The second is the West Shore Expressway, and it is the one we treat differently. Traffic there moves fast and the shoulder is not a place to stand around. If that is where you are, hazards on, stay belted inside while traffic is moving, and give us the nearest exit so we come off behind you rather than past you.
The newer townhouse developments off Woodrow Road and Arden Avenue add a third, quieter version: shared parking areas where a car can sit unnoticed for a week.
Off the 440 and onto the local roads
The West Shore Expressway is how we cover ground out here, then we come off onto Arthur Kill Road, Woodrow Road, Rossville Avenue or Arden Avenue depending on where you are.
For the plazas along Veterans Road West we come straight off the highway. If you are near Clay Pit Ponds State Park Preserve or the Sandy Ground area, use that as the landmark — the road numbering out there is not obvious in the dark.

Left overnight in a shopping lot?
It happens often enough to be worth saying: if the car is going to sit in a plaza lot until morning, check whether that lot tows overnight before you leave it. We are not the people who will move it, and we would rather you knew than found out.
If you do come back to it, someone with the keys needs to be there when we arrive. We do not jump unattended vehicles, because the car has to be started, run and tested with a person present.
Jump start questions from Rossville & Woodrow
I am on the West Shore Expressway shoulder. What should I do?
Hazards on and stay belted inside while traffic is moving. Traffic out there moves fast and the shoulder is the dangerous part of this, not the battery. Give us the nearest exit and your direction of travel so we come off behind you rather than past you, and let the truck set up before anything opens.
Can you come to the shopping plaza lots off Veterans Road West?
Yes, and it is one of the more common calls here. Those lots are big enough that a dead car in the evening can be surrounded by empty spaces and nobody at all. Tell us the store you parked nearest and roughly where in the lot, and we come straight off the highway to you.
I got a lift home and left the car in the plaza overnight. Now what?
Come back to it and call, and someone with the keys needs to be there when we arrive, since we do not jump unattended vehicles. Worth checking whether that lot tows overnight before you leave a car in it, because that is a problem we cannot solve for you and would rather you avoided.
Do you cover the newer townhouse developments off Woodrow Road?
Yes. Those shared parking areas are a common call, usually because a car has sat unnoticed for a week or more while everything from the alarm to the keyless receiver kept drawing on it. Give us the building or the block as well as the street, since the layouts repeat and numbering can be hard to follow.
