Expressway exits and the roads underneath
For anything on or near the Expressway we come off at Hylan Boulevard, Clove Road or Fingerboard Road, whichever puts us behind you rather than past you. Which one that is depends on your direction of travel, so tell us which way you were heading.
Off the highway, the north end of Hylan Boulevard and the south end of Bay Street reach most of Rosebank and Shore Acres, and Clove Road handles Grasmere and Concord. The Grasmere railway station and Fort Wadsworth are both quick from the Expressway.

24/7 dispatch 718-550-1460Dead on the bridge approach, on the Staten Island side
This neighborhood catches a particular kind of call: the car that quits within sight of the Verrazzano-Narrows Bridge. Sometimes it is on the approach itself, sometimes on the Expressway near the Hylan Boulevard, Clove Road or Fingerboard Road exits, sometimes at a light on the way there.
The instinct is to call whoever is closest as the crow flies, which often means somebody in Brooklyn. That is the wrong instinct. They have to cross the bridge to reach you, pay the toll and sit in whatever the traffic is doing, and the quoted time stretches accordingly. We are already on this side.
If you stopped before the toll plaza, we come to you there. If you are on the shoulder, the priority is not your battery — it is that you are on a live expressway shoulder. Hazards on, stay belted inside while traffic is moving, and note the nearest exit sign so we find you on the first pass.
Shoulder work, and why the truck sets up before the hood opens
A jump on a shoulder is a different job from a jump in a driveway, and the sequence matters. We approach from behind with lights on and position the truck between you and moving traffic before anyone touches the car.
While you wait: stay in the vehicle with your belt on if traffic is moving. Do not stand at the front of the car, and do not accept a jump from a driver who pulls over with a set of thin cables — a live shoulder is the worst possible place for a hurried hookup, and reversed polarity on a modern car costs far more than the jump would have.

Jump start questions from Rosebank & Arrochar
My car quit on the Verrazzano approach before the toll. Can you reach me?
Yes. We meet you on the Staten Island side, including on the approach before the toll plaza. That is exactly the call where being on this side matters, because a service coming from Brooklyn has to cross the bridge and pay the toll to get to you, and their quoted time stretches to match.
I am on the Expressway shoulder. What do you need from me?
The nearest exit sign or mile marker, and which direction you were travelling. That decides whether we come off at Hylan Boulevard, Clove Road or Fingerboard Road so we end up behind you rather than sailing past on the other side. On a dark shoulder that is the difference between finding you on the first pass and the second.
Should I just call a Brooklyn service since the bridge is right there?
It is close as the crow flies and much further in practice. They cross the Verrazzano, pay the toll and sit in whatever the traffic is doing, and you wait through all of it. We dispatch from Staten Island, so no bridge is part of your wait. We do not cross into Brooklyn ourselves for the same reason.
Someone stopped to offer me a jump on the shoulder. Should I take it?
We would not. A live expressway shoulder is the worst place for a hurried hookup with unknown cables and an unmatched donor car, and reversed polarity on a modern vehicle can destroy a control module. Stay belted inside while traffic is moving and let the truck set up between you and the traffic first.
